World of Work Week
We had an amazing Careers Week at Smithies Moor.
Careers week started with a KS2 Assembly, where we tried to guess the jobs of our visitors from Co-op Funeral Care and Wilmott Dixon Construction. This was followed by having a fantastic workshop with Wilmott Dixon completing a 'Lego Construction Challenge.'
On Tuesday we welcomed Circana for an all-day 'Dragons Den Workshop', which we loved, and on Wednesday there was a fantastic Careers Fair in the Hall.
On Thursday morning, Kolorcraft came to talk to us about the printing industry, and they challenged us to build card Christmas trees and decorate them with baubles which we had designed and had turned into stickers. In the afternoon, we had job interviews, where we applied for roles as either a member of SLT (Senior Leadership Team) or a Teaching Assistant at Smithies Moor. This event was supported by Co-op Funeral Care and members of our Academy Community Council. This was a great experience and we really enjoyed the challenge.
On Friday, we had two students from Leeds University Sports department come to visit. They delivered an awesome hockey lesson and explained a bit more about careers in sport. After the break, we had two members of the Leeds City College team come to tell us about what options we are able to take post-16. They then set us an engineering task to build houses out of spaghetti and marshmallows!
It was a fantastic week, and we would like to say a big thank you to all our guests for an amazing experience, and also to Miss Sykes for creating and organising a brilliant week for us in Year 5.
