Smithies Moor gains prestigious science award

Staff and pupils at Co-op Academy Smithies Moor were delighted to receive the Primary Science Quality Mark, a nationally recognised award for excellence in Science education.

Schools that achieve Primary Science Quality Mark, (PSQM) demonstrate commitment and expertise in science leadership, teaching and learning.

The PSQM Reviewers said, “The commitment to leading science in primary schools over the last year has been outstanding and the positive impact on teaching and learning is very clear.”

This special quality mark is awarded after a year-long process of auditing, planning, and evidencing the impact of science across the school. The award is designed to ensure effective leadership of science, enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development led by local experts.

“I am delighted that our school has received this award and that the hard work and enthusiasm of our pupils has been recognised. Science is a core part of our curriculum here at Smithies Moor, and we work hard to build our pupils’ curiosity about the world.”

Head of Academy Mrs Brackenbury

In the next few years, pupils at the school will have even more opportunities to see science, technology, engineering and maths in action as a brand new building is constructed for the school. With so many inspiring examples of scientific job roles working nearby, the enquiring minds of Smithies Moor will be able to think about some of the exciting careers that make use of scientific knowledge and skills.
